Story
Dementia doesn't just rob folk of their memories, it also takes their identities, their connection with others, their ability to think and move (including speech)… and ultimately their lives. It's brutal. It's also the UK's biggest killer, and one-in-three born today will develop it.
I spent three years working in social care, and saw for myself the devastating effects dementia has on *everyone* around it. So, for me – a lifelong lover of mountain hiking – the Alzheimer's Trek26 is the perfect opportunity to do something about this horrendous disease.
This means that at 5.30am on June 13th 2026 I'll be at the start point, near Crickhowell in Powys, making last-minute preparations for a 26-mile hike, +1,473m climbing. I've done some epic mountain trails in the past, but I've never attempted such a long/high route in one day 😬
In the meantime, I'm doing lots of training to make sure I, and my feet, are in the best possible condition to complete this trek: 200km hiking as of 29th April 💪 (See updates below.)
