‘In light of the current circumstances…’ – as read most
things you’re being bombarded with at the moment – and given that most of us will be stranded on these shores for the considerable near future, we’ve challenged ourselves to get the most we can out of them! That’s right, in little under a month we will be – government permitting – attempting the arduous (but counter-intuitively not ‘uphill’) journey from Lands’ End to John O’Groats on our finest two wheeled steeds. Whilst it
won’t be easy – beer bellies have reached their elastic limit after 3-4 years of uni – like most of you, we’ve got serious fresh air withdrawals and are (we hope) up to the challenge.
Alongside proving that we are all in the shape of our lives, we had hoped to raise some money in our undertaking of this challenge, yet with the abundance of laudable and worthwhile causes currently circulating social media, we struggled to settle on any in particular. However, following recent events in America and indeed closer to home, we thought it would be right to choose Unseen UK, and do our best to help them in their struggle against modern-day slavery; a stain on our society that still affects an estimated and astonishing 40.3 million people worldwide. It seems strange to cheer as statues of slave traders fall when so many of their kind live and operate among and around us to this day, the scourge of the most vulnerable and socially excluded
groups on our planet, disproportionately affecting the young, women, refugees and people of non-European heritage.
Any donations will be massively appreciated, as we are sure
all the sweaty Lycra photos will also be, so please watch this space for
updates on who’s sporting the yellow jersey!
A Huge thank you from Antoine Nigond, Daniel Mayers, Luc
Kelly, Milo Black, Ness S-Dodd, Jed Allen, Will Bond and Sam LC
