We care for ex-Service personnel to give them back their independence

Story

World War II veteran Len joined the Royal Army Service Corps as a Despatch Rider when he was just 20 years old. In early June 1944, Len got married and four days later he was posted to Normandy as part of the Normandy Landings.

Len was in Normandy through to the end of the invasion, then went to the Netherlands via Brussels, and was part of Operation Market Garden in September of 1944. From there, he was posted in Germany, which is where he was when the War ended.

In 2019, Len came to live at Care for Veterans as he realised that he needed extra help.

Len has decided that he would like to join the Care for Veterans 10k team and so he will be there, in his wheelchair, on Sunday 9th October on Worthing Seafront. With the help of our team, Len is intending to take on the same 10k route and cheer on our amazing runners as they raise vital funds for our disabled veterans.

Care for Veterans does not receive any regular government funding, so it is down to everyday heroes like our fundraisers that the charity can continue to provide the essential care that our veterans need.

Anything you can spare to support Len and the team in their endeavours will make a massive difference to the lives of our veterans.
