As-salamu alaykum, Hi all my name is Lena, I have decided to part take in Islamic Reliefs international challenge in Morocco where we will hike the highest mountain in North Africa in order to raise funds for our Water4life projects in Yemen.
With the ongoing conflict in Yemen – already one of the poorest countries in the region – tens of thousands of lives have been lost and over 20 million people don’t know where their next meal will come from. A country crippled by conflict is sadly now on the brink of famine.
With families facing ongoing armed conflict, displacement, disease and economic decline, an estimated 24 million people are now in need of humanitarian aid to survive – a figure so high that it is in fact the highest across the globe.
Families and communities have been torn apart and left without even the most basic of living essentials:
* 19.7 million people need basic healthcare
* Almost 18 million people are in need of water and sanitation facilities
The truth is a person can only survive three days with no water. Living in a hot country with no water conditions will liking cause dehydration within hours. While we are all busy thinking about the political side of the world of war a child is dyeing every hour from dehydration.
As quoted from a hadith
“The best form of charity is giving water (to drink).” (hadith of the Prophet ﷺ, narrated by Ibn Majah)
Water is so much more than just a drink: it’s needed to cook food, water crops and livestock, wash hands and cooking pots to stop diseases spreading.
Islamic Relief aims to give people all over the world water for life. I truly hope you can help me with my target and start saving and changing lives together.
Jazak Allahu khayran,
Thank you.
