Story

Leo's Story

Leo was born in a very bad condition due to complications during his birth that damaged his brain. He was placed on life support after agonising resucitation. Darby was by my side during the c-section so witnessed the harrowing event and saw his tiny little body endure a very harsh procedure, heart compressions and breaths were forced into his tiny body and after 35 minutes he took a gasp and his heart rate returned. Although our baby boy had made some efforts of his own he was very sick and we both knew that he would never live a normal life.

Over the next 48 hours tests confirmed the worst, showing Leo had very little brain activity and there was no hope for him. Our family and friends gathered round his cot where a christening was held to celebrate Leo before he was taken off life support. That night in the dark hours a very special lady helped us to wash and dress him before they removed him from the ventilator. Leo surprised us all and continued to breath!!!

Leo made it home from time to time although we spent most of his tiny life in St MarysHhospital where angels made his life as comfortable as possible, and we were just waiting for him to take his last breaths. He carried on and time was limitied with his big brother Morgan now 11 and Casey now 9, the situation was taking its toll.

We were introduced to a hospice for children where we spent many days and nights including christmas. We were treated fantastically and the boys thought they were in heaven toys everywhere, not to mention their Mum and Dad!!

Leos fight came to an end 3rd Feb 2007, 17 weeks after he entered the world he could fight no longer. He was surrounded by people who loved him and he passed away peacefully with Mummy and Daddy holding his hands. He is buried in a special place right under a tree and he has a teddy bear keeping him safe.

Since Leo passed we have had two more beautiful boys but unfortunately they were both born 3 months prematurely.

Oscar is a very health 3 year old who flew though his prematurity and nothing stands in his way.

Jude on the other hand has spent 11 of his 12 months of life in hospital and had 2 life threatening infections due to a problem that no doctors have been able to get to the bottom of as yet.

This is the reason this years golf memorial is raising money for Great Ormond Street Hospital. Jude is currently undergoing a series of tests to improve his quality of life, he is fed into his gut as his stomach does not work as it should.

Please help us help the people who are helping Jude!! Nothing could save Leo but Jude has every chance!!!!
