Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.
I have been associated with the Mudeka Foundation for about 6 years. I wanted to sponsor a child abroad on a long term basis as a life lesson to my own children about their circumstance and that of others. I was lucky enough to find Anna Mudeka and her team as a local alternative to the bigger sponsorship charities. I fully endorse and support the aims of Mudeka in educating orphans in Harare and rural Zimbabwe. But a great bonus for me is the intimacy of the organisation. I know exactly the impact of my sponsorship in terms of who it is for and what it pays for. My donation goes to my sponsored child, Mercy Chitiva, in total. Nothing is lost in administration. The Foundation also provides: a feeding programme at one of its rural schools that ensures the children are fed and able to attend school even when food stocks for the year run out; sanitary protection for girls that ensures they do not miss school; a building programme that is enhancing school facilities with the provision of toilet facilities and classrooms.
To give you some idea of how your donation will get spent:
It costs 25p per day to feed a child - the Foundation feeds 300 children in 2 schools for 39 weeks of the year - easy to see how feeding and education are linked, I think
It costs £50 per year to educate a child at primary school. Just read that again - £50 per year. That's a pocket money amount in the UK.
It costs £80 per year to educate a child at secondary school.

This is also a great opportunity to undertake a serious run, which is relatively new to me, with some very old friends I have just re-connected with. Their family host the Barrathon, and I jumped at the chance to drive 1,000 miles, ferry for 6 hours each way, and then run for 13 miles ! Feels like a bit of a pilgrimage. The Outer Hebrides have the word 'outer' as a prefix for a reason! It really is a long way, but I am excited to be going and for such a great cause.
