I'm running the Great Manchester Run for #TeamStroke!
I am running the Great Manchester Run in the hope to raise awareness the affect stroke has on children aged 0-18.
Last year my good friend Tom Metcalfe and his family had the terrible news that their 4 year old son, Sebastian had suffered three strokes. At first they where told by doctors he had suffered a seizure and were given a possible epilepsy diagnosis but further testing confirmed he had suffered multiple strokes. Six months later and after being on medication, thankfully Sebastian hasn’t suffered from any further strokes and now Tom and his family are waiting for test results which will hopefully tell them what the cause is.
Tom’s family and I want to raise awareness for children and families that have suffered similar experiences and what better way to start than a marathon? 5 out of 100,000 children a year are affected by stroke and doctors are still unaware of what could be causing them. 10% of these children may not ever find out what the cause could be and be left unknowing.
So, our aim is to raise money for the stroke association to help create awareness of childhood strokes as there is currently very little knowledge/support available. We are all so grateful for any donations, whatever that may be, in support of this great charity.
