Story
Patchwork Kids' mission is to provide educational assistance for underprivileged, tribal and street children in India, Africa and Macedonia. This year, LEORON Professional Development Institute is embarking on a fundraising attempt to provide help to the disadvantaged children of Shutka - Macedonia.
Often referred as the Roma capital of the world, The Municipality of Shutka in Skopje, Macedonia, is said to comprise of approximately 70.000 people, of which, the largest proportion belong to the Romani ethnicity. As such, Shutka represents one of the largest settlements of Romani people in the world. Though debatable due to the lack of an updated population census, the number of Shutka’s residents differs in various reports from 35.000 to 70.000.
Yet, with one of the largest scales of unemployment in Macedonia, and an overall lack of development, Shutka is also facing a vast challenge in the sphere of education. Representatives from the municipality have often pointed out that the education rate is constantly reaching new lows and institutions are functioning beyond any capable limits, due to the lack of funds, proper locations and staff capacity.
We, at LEORON, strongly believe that education plays a crucial role in one’s growth and advancement, be it an individual or a group. Hence, “LEORON runs for education” is LEORON Special Development Institute’s endeavor to truly contribute to this noble cause. Nearly 40 representatives from the company will run the annual Skopje Maraton this year, where they will represent Patchwork Kids’ work in Macedonia and try to raise funds for the cause. In addition, LEORON will also make its own donations toward the fund.
We encourage everyone to participate and contribute toward the creation of equal possibilities in the world.
