Milton Keynes Marathon 2017 · 1 May 2017 ·

Anyone can get Parkinson’s. It gets worse over time and there’s no cure. Yet. Funding research into the most promising treatments, we’re getting closer to a cure. Until then, we're improving life for people with Parkinson’s, and the people in their lives. Together we'll find a cure.

Story

Steve and I are running the Milton Keynes Marathon (26.2 miles) to raise money for Parkinson's disease, in memory of my dad 'Pete', who passed away on 22nd April 2016.

My dad was diagnosed with the disease at the age of 48 and battled against it, with great determination, for 24 years.  He always remained a 'glass half full' type of person, despite having this condition,  and he never gave up.  It was this positive attitude that carried him through over the years, despite his condition gradually worsening, and continuously becoming more challenging.

In 2007, I ran the Great North Run (half marathon) in aid of Parkinson's disease.   After completing it, a conversation between dad and myself, sticks in my mind, where he said I should now run a full marathon.  At the time, I was not keen on the idea.  It now feels like a fitting tribute to run one in his memory.

Steve is amazing and has offered (probably regretting it now) to train and run it with me for moral support, motivation and to nag me when I'm lagging behind.... I'm also hoping that some of my dad's positive attitude and determination  has rubbed off on me as it's a very long way!

Having seen my dad battle against this debilitating disease, for so many years, we feel that this is the least we can do, to try and raise as much money as we can to raise awareness and help to beat this disease and we would make my dad so proud!

We are currently around the 9 mile mark and over the next few weeks the distances will be rapidly increasing. We have been out training in all weather and we will continue to do so as we prepare ourselves for this 'OUR' biggest challenge yet!

We will keep you updated regularly on our progress and would appreciate it if you could sponsor us.

Many thanks

Lesley and Steve  xx
