Story
Last July, our world changed forever when my husband David was diagnosed with glioblastoma — an aggressive and incurable brain tumour. Until then, it was a word we had barely heard. Overnight, it became part of our everyday life.
Since his diagnosis, we’ve learned some heartbreaking truths. Brain tumours are among the deadliest of all cancers, yet they receive only a tiny fraction of the national cancer research budget. Despite the devastating impact of this disease, treatment options for glioblastoma have barely progressed in decades, leaving families with limited choices and little certainty.
The reality of living with a brain tumour is overwhelming not only for those diagnosed but for their families too - the shock of diagnosis, the constant hospital visits, gruelling treatments, the uncertainty about the future, and the emotional toll on the whole family. Yet through it all, we’ve also seen extraordinary strength, kindness, and love.
The Brain Tumour Charity provides vital support, trusted information, and funds desperately needed research into better treatments and outcomes. Their work gives families like ours hope in the face of a diagnosis that currently has far too few answers.
My fabulous friends “The Pink Ladies” and I are taking part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk to raise money to support their incredible work and to help change the future for people affected by brain tumours. With greater awareness and increased research funding, we hope that one day diagnoses like this will come with better options — and ultimately, a cure.
Thank you so much for taking the time to read our story and for any support you’re able to give. Every donation, no matter the size, helps make a difference and is gratefully appreciated.
