Hi, I’m Lester and I’m a 16 year old drummer from Aylesbury.
I have been accepted on to the highly prestigious Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony in California this August.
This is a ‘one week intensive educational program in jazz performance for a very limited number of exceptionally talented students from across the USA’ and is an amazing opportunity for me.
I am one of three 16-19 year old jazz musicians that have been selected to attend the course from the UK. The whole course is for 24 participants.
NYJO is the UK partner for The Brubeck Institute Summer Jazz Colony.
I am raising funds to pay for my course fees and return flights which total approximately £2650.
My Story
I come from a musical family, my parents are both jazz musicians and my older brother and sister are too. I am absolutely passionate about playing the drums and playing with other musicians. It is my ambition to become a professional musician.
I have been studying at the Junior Guildhall School of Music and have had fantastic drum lessons from Adam Osmianski who has been a real inspiration to me. From September I will be attending the Purcell School of Music for my sixth form studies and also The Junior Jazz at The Royal Academy of Music on Saturdays.
When my sister Alex was 16 she also was chosen for the Brubeck Summer Jazz Colony. She said it was a fantastic life changing experience.
This opportunity means the world to me, I am so looking forward to participating on the course, meeting new friends and learning from the incredible line up of tutors.
Any help you can give would be amazing.
