$2000 NEEDED TO COVER 1 WEEK OF VET BILLS · 29 November 2021

We run a 5-star cat shelter within Athens, where we provide a safe sanctuary for sick, injured, or malnourished street cats in need of our help. After providing them with the necessary veterinary treatment, we rehome these animals internationally through our global adoptions programme. Furthermore, we also hold various TNR programmes, stray feeding programmes, and education events to help improve the welfare of animals both in our surrounding area, and globally. Let's be S.M.A.R.T aims to educate communities about the importance of animals, by raising awareness for their rights, well-being, and care. We focus on bringing communities together to promote responsible care of animals through the organization of events for both children and adults. Let's be S.M.A.R.T. hopes to foster the practice of understanding and compassion with animals. We believe in thinking globally while acting locally, and we strive to support special projects throughout the world as they arise. We are dedicated to working toward positive global animal welfare. Our inspiration comes from Mahatma Gandhi who said: “The greatness of a nation and its moral progress can be judged by the way its animals are treated."

Story

This is our 2021 Giving Tuesday Campaign, and we desperately need your help to raise $2000 in just one week...

Each week we spend an average of $2000 on vet bills. This includes the initial feacal tests, blood tests, vaccinations and parasite treatment each cat must have before coming into our care.

Unfortunately, a large majority of our cats require more than the basic treatment due to their rough street life, which means they often require hospitalization, IV fluids, surgeries and medication.

Starting November 29th we aim to raise $2000 to cover one weeks worth of vet bills! Will you help us?

Why we spend $2000 per week at the vets…

Every cat that enters our shelter must be tested for a variety of viruses and parasites, which means we must do blood tests as well as faecal tests. Furthermore, each of our cats are sterilized, fully vaccinated, microchipped and provided with any additional medication they need, which all comes at a cost!

These cost's do not include the 24 hour intensive care we have to provide to a lot of our rescues, particularly ones like Amelie.

Amelies story

It was 23:45, we were at the vets for an emergency when
someone dumped this little kitten and left. We were told they would put her to sleep unless we offered to help her… how could we say no? The vet warned us that she might not make it, but they could begin immediate treatment to give her the best chance of survival.

She was cold, weak and very skinny. Not to mention the huge infection in her eyes that she probably couldn’t see out of. She broke our
hearts from the very moment we met her, but we knew we would do everything we could to make her better.

Amelie spent weeks on fluids, antibiotics, pain killers, eye
drops and much more, but she was slowly regaining her strength! She was finally able to leave the vets, but we had to keep a very close eye on her at our S.M.A.R.T Foster Home to make sure she was okay.

We created our own mini vet clinic in the kitchen where she
could receive all the medication she needed thanks to our highly qualified staff!

Although we had managed to save her life, we sadly did not
manage to save her eyes. The infection was so bad by the time she was found, there was no way we could help her see again. After 3 months she was finally healthy enough for surgery! We were so worried for her, but we knew that she would feel much better once the pain had gone, and there was no more chance of infection.

Thankfully her surgery was a success and there were no
complications! We brought her straight home to recover, where she was given lots of love and cuddles. Amelie had to wear the bandage over her eyes for around 1 week to help her stitches heal as the tissue around her eyes was very delicate.

But you should see her now! She is healthier and happier than ever. Being blind doesn’t stop her from being the most beautiful and cuddly little cat that has overcome everything.

In total Amelies treatment cost $999,95... But she is worth
every penny.

CATS LIKE AMELIE ARE THE REASON WE NEED YOU!

Our fundraiser will be launched on November 29th,
and in just 7 days we aim to raise the $2000 we will spend that week.
