Hello everyone, just a quick update to let you know that the team got to the stone marker at Ravenscar. We added a good few miles onto the 42 miles we were supposed to do, but all lived to tell the tale!!! The bad weather, lack of visible track and poor general visibility meant that after the extra miles walked we eventually finished after 21.5 hours! It was a very tiring day and we pushed our feet to their limits right through to the end. We would like to thank everyone for the support we have received and want to say a massive thanks to our support team - we couldnt have done it without you! Xo
Hugh congratulations to everyone taking part in the Lyke Wake Walk Challenge. Despite the horrendous rain and fog they managed to finish after 21 hours of walking!! At some points of the walk the fog was so bad visibility was to a bare minimum but everyone was determined to finish and they should be very proud of their achievement.
Sponsor money is still being collected and once I have a grand total I will let you know.
Once again Congratulations to everyone you did yourself proud.
Last year Lewis and Nicola Beecher's daughter, Megan, became ill and the doctors discovered that she had a tumour at the back of her brain (cerebellum) which required surgery.
Everyone that knows or works with Lewis Beecher knows that if he is right up at the top of the league table for being one of the most protective fathers any child could wish for, and one of the biggest worriers....this news was absolutely devastating for him and his family.
As the Beecher family cared for and supported Megan through her operation and the physical recovery they waited nervously for the result of the tumour biopsy. Through the most worrying time of their lives, Lewis and Nicola have held their family together and since the discovery that the tumour was benign, they have nursed Megan back to full health.
The road to recovery was not easy but Lewis and Nikki have brought the family unit back to normality. Megan and her brother Ethan are now able to play together, be happy, and have the good health that Lewis and Nikki wished for.
The Beecher family really appreciated the support they received from the Levi's Star charity when Megan was ill and now they would like to show their gratitude by organising events to raise money for the charity.
To raise money our walking and support team is going to attempt the well known (sponsored) Lyke Wake Walk Challenge. Here is a little information about it and some website links if you would like to know more:
Lyke Wake Walk
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Lyke Wake Walk was started by a local farmer, Bill Cowley, in the North Riding of Yorkshire, England, in 1955. He claimed that one could walk 40 miles (64 km) over the North York Moors from east to west (or vice-versa) on heather all the way except for crossing one or two roads and he issued a challenge that walkers took up with great enthusiasm. He challenged them to walk it in less than 24 hours from Scarth Wood Moor, near Osmotherley,[1] to Ravenscar.[2] He concentrated on the west to east route because the prevailing wind came from the west, in principle making it easier to walk with the wind on one's back and with the heather lying away from the walker.
The walk took its name from the Lyke Wake Dirge, probably 's oldest dialect verse, which takes its name from the watching wake over the corpse (lyke) The song tells of the soul's passage through the afterlife. The walk was not meant to be taken as the route of a funeral party but the possibility of bad weather and difficult conditions make it an appropriate club song.
We don't know what the future holds, but if your child, a relative or a child you know became ill, it would be reassuring to know that charities such as the Levi's Star charity can provide support in times of need, so please donate whatever you can spare.
Donating through JustGiving is simple, fast and totally secure. Your details are safe with JustGiving – they’ll never sell them on or send unwanted emails. Once you donate, they’ll send your money directly to the charity and make sure Gift Aid is reclaimed on every eligible donation by a UK taxpayer. So it’s the most efficient way to donate - we raise more, whilst saving time and cutting costs for the charity.
