Story
I am running the 2019 London Marathon for the MS Society.
Multiple Sclerosis (MS), is a neurological condition that affects your brain and ultimately your nerves and immune system; it is currently incurable. Over 100,000 people in the UK currently have MS.
My Mum was diagnosed with MS in 2016, seemingly out of the
blue, and ever since I have felt an affiliation with MS and have wanted to fund raise for the MS Society. I had been waiting for the right opportunity to do so, and the marathon is the ideal stage……
My Mum can be a worrier and over thinker, however the way
she has dealt with her diagnosis is the polar opposite; she remains positive, she doesn't let it get her down, or, as much as possible, impact her day to day life. It sounds cliché, but it is inspirational to see. However, despite the positive face, I also see the struggles.
By running the marathon, I want to raise awareness, funds
and ultimately make my Mum proud. By raising money for the MS Society, I will feel as though I am contributing to the cause and ultimately helping my Mum (and others), as the money raised will support the MS Society with future research, support and advice to those affected.
The marathon will be a real challenge for me, as I do not
enjoy running in the slightest – the only races I have ever taken part in are 4 mile fun runs years and years ago!
Your support and donations really do mean a lot, and will
help keep me motivated throughout my training programme, especially on those long (boring) training runs……
Thank you,
Lewis
