Story
Hi everyone - thanks for visiting this page and considering donating.
I'm fundraising again for Room to Heal. I did a triathlon for them last year and it's time for another push!
The charity means so much to me. After having stumbled upon them last year, I have now been volunteering with them, most Tuesdays for over a year now and that's one of the highlights of the week.
They work with refugees and asylum seekers who have experienced torture and human rights violations and offers therapy for their trauma, and guidance through the various systems of the Home Office, housing and the like. They offer support and community, something that can be hard to find in a big city like London, to people who really need it, who arrive often alone in an unfamiliar place. Not to mention they are unable to work or study and, although gratefully received, the government's £5 daily allowance kind of means you have to either go somewhere and back on the bus or eat. I'd chose food... and I guess loneliness.
But luckily, there's Room to Heal. Room to Heal have two meet ups for members in the week, Tuesdays and Fridays, where travel is reimbursed, food is cooked and enjoyed together and friendly faces are there for you. Not to mention their small staff working tirelessly to overcome issues through the week.
Very exciting news is that Room to Heal have just taken the plunge (almost literally! ) and moved downstairs to a slightly larger, more practical, and a bit more sanctuary-esque space. It's a bit more in rent and we also had to put up partitions to make the space work, but it's transformative and is going to make their work so much more effective. Nonetheless, I know any donation is really going to provide a vote of confidence as they go on to do bigger and better things and fight a potentially more and more challenging political environment.
I really have fallen in love with this charity, the people and the cause. Please join me in supporting them if you can and know that every donation will make a great impact to this grass roots charity who fight the good fight! Peace everyone. :) x
