Story

It‘s been a tough year for everyone!

Some are able to tell their stories. Some are not.

As a York based team of healthcare professionals we would like to come together to remember those whom we have lost both personally and professionally particularly in this last year.

At the same time, by exercising we are maintaining our work life balance and leading by example. We are showing the importance of team and raising the profile of good palliative care. A specialty that is poorly state funded and relies heavily on charitable organisations such as Macmillan cancer support. These charities have taken a huge hit with the cancellations of the big events this year.

Originally this team were going to compete in the Edinburgh Marathon festival. Now, we will be running and cycling together in a socially distanced and secure way on Sunday 30th May 2021 through the villages north of York and past the pubs where we would often come together for mutual support with colleagues, some of whom we have lost this year and we have been unable to mark their passing due to covid restrictions.

All team members are running/ cycling various distances from 5k, 10k, half and full marathon.

We are hoping to encourage many of the pubs to act as water stations for us and as a hub for supporters within the covid guidelines.

I am fundraising towards Macmillan’s Yorkshire Appeal and all funds I raise through my JustGiving page will be used by Macmillan specifically in the Yorkshire area. Last year Macmillan lost over £1m in income across Yorkshire. In response to this, Macmillan have launched the Yorkshire Appeal which aims to raise additional funds to cover our emergency response and vital services that are needed to support those living with cancer in Yorkshire. This will help us ensure people living with cancer have the support they need when and where they need it.
