Would you like to contribute to the furnishings of Leighton House?
The period photograph show two ebonised tables in the Narcissus Hall of the house, placed either side of the doors to the drawing room. Like the rest of Leighton’s significant furniture, the tables were sold in 1896 and it is extremely unlikely that they will ever be traced.
We are now seeking to commission precise replicas of these tables and reinstate them in their original location. Both tables are mentioned in the original sale catalogue of Leighton’s collections in 1896 with their dimensions provided. This information has been coupled with the visual information provided in the 1895 photographs of the house. Taken by the photographer Bedford Lemere, the images have been loaded onto a computer. Their quality is such that it is possible to ‘zoom in’ to view even the smallest details and then build up the design so that the tables are made as closely as possible to the originals.
