Story
I am currently serving as a Royal Air Force Air Traffic Controller at Leuchars Diversion Airfield and a few years ago, I set myself the challenge of running a marathon before I turned 30. As this milestone is approaching a little more quickly than I might like at the end of 2023, I decided to run both the Edinburgh and Berlin marathons in support of the Royal Air Force Association.
RAFA is a fantastic charity that offers a wide range of support to both serving and former Service personnel, as well as their families. This can include assisting an elderly veteran through the current cost of living crisis, supporting the family of a Service person deployed overseas or providing welfare services to new recruits who are unable to leave their training establishment during the
course.
My challenge began with the Edinburgh marathon on 28 May 23, which I completed in 4 hours, 29 minutes and 30 seconds, and ended with the Berlin marathon which I completed in 4 hours, 45 minutes and 6 seconds on 24 September 23. By running 274 miles cumulatively, I achieved my target of at least 262 miles (the equivalent of 10 marathons) over the summer, which included finishing this year's Great North Run in 1 hour, 56 minutes and 4 seconds.
Thank you to everyone that has supported me along the way, your donations have been greatly appreciated by both me and RAFA.
