Story
On 1st December 2024 I will be attempting to walk 100,000 steps in and around Wiltshrie as part of a sponsored event in memory of my amazing cousin Julie Pike who died of leukaemia.
Julie is remembered for the positive impact she made on this world. All money raised will go directly to the Anthony Nolan Trust.
What does the Anthony Nolan Trust do?
In one sense, all they do is connect people. They connect one person, whose immune system needs a boost with another person, who is prepared to share a little of theirs. Matching patients with donors.
In the case of leukaemia, intensive chemotherapy and radiotherapy are used to eradicate the disease. However the intensity of these treatments has the negative effect of severely weakening the patient’s immune system. Therefore a white cell transplant provides the patient’s body with healthy cells capable of regenerating the immune system.
I was fortunate enough to be a cell-match for Julie, and through donating white cells at Bristol's Southead Hospital, together with others, we managed to prolong Julie's life for many months.
As a registered charity, the Anthony Nolan Trust continually rely on the financial support of individuals and organisations, so I encourage you to support them.
Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor me: Anthony Nolan Trust gets your money faster and, if you’re a UK taxpayer, Justgiving makes sure 25% in Gift Aid, plus a 3% supplement, are added to your donation.Thank you for your support.
