Story
I'm trying to run the Great South Run this year in honour of my Dad, Jim Sheridan. At Christmas 2018, he wasn't able to come to us at Christmas as planned due to being poorly with flu symptoms. He got worse over Christmas, was hospitalised and diagnosed with acute myeloid leukaemia (AML). He died within days on 5th January 2019, and my life changed forever.
Almost 3,100 people are diagnosed with AML in the UK every year. That’s more than 8 people every day. Survival rates from AML are one of the lowest for all cancers with only 22% survival after 5 years. I want to help others who are affected by this terrible disease.
Leukaemia Care is a national charity dedicated to ensuring that anyone affected by blood cancer receives the right information, advice and support. Around 34,000 people are affected by blood cancer each year in the UK and we're here to support them through their diagnosis, treatment and beyond.
