My wife's sister Deana and partner Darren have a beautiful seven year old daughter Libby.  Libby has a diagnosis of Global Development Delay, Cortical Visual Impairment, sleep disorders and a history of infantile spasms.  Her difficulties are complex and long term which means she has to attend a specialist school.  Libby relies on her parents to lift and hoist her, as well as feed and attend to all her other needs. Carla and Daniel are Libby's twin sister and brother and they play a big part in caring for their sister, and it is apparent from Libby’s big smiles that she loves and enjoys being around them.

In order for Libby to better access everyday living she needs and is going to need further adaptations and specialist equipment in her
home.  Deana and Darren are wishing to install a lift and an accessible wet room so that Libby’s sleeping arrangements can continue on the same floor as the rest of the family.   These adaptations are important so that Libby can be safely and comfortably transferred around the home which will enable her to take part in every day family life.

To kick start the fundraising for the adaptions I completed my first marathon in Chester on 2 October 2016.  Although I have been involved in many fundraising causes/events which have included cycling, running and triathlons I have never participated in a full marathon so this was a great challenge for such a ‘close to home’ fund raiser.  I wanted to complete the marathon in 4 hours and my finish time was 3 hours 59 minutes and 47 seconds......  Job done - I was happy with that.  It was a great day and to have Libby and family at the finish line was the icing on the cake.
