Story
Thank you for donating to Caudwell Children and supporting autistic children and their families!
We launched the Locked in for Autism campaign back in October 2014 and after travelling over 4000 miles, engaging with over 10,000 families and raising over £90,000, like all good things, it has come to an end.
The campaign proved a huge success in generating more
awareness, acceptance and understanding of autism, largely through extensive national and local media coverage. In 2016 Locked in for Autism was recognised by the charity industry when it was shortlisted for a prestigious Third Sector Award in the ‘Communication Campaign of the Year’ category. It also attracted high praise from respected media outlets, autism campaigners and local government officials.
We took our glass box to Tesco 31 stores across the UK and
enjoyed a hugely positive reception in every town. The campaign relied on outstanding volunteers to put their lives on hold to live inside the 2m x 3m transparent structure for 50 hours. The youngest volunteer was 18 and the oldest was 81! We had people from all backgrounds take part – including a teacher, taxi driver, retired boxer, wages clerk and library manager - all with a personal connection to autism and all with a passion to help Caudwell Children put the condition in the shop window.
We would like to thank everyone who supported the campaign,
including Tesco PLC who proved brilliant hosts and continue to share our vision to raise the profile of autism. Thanks also to the teams of Caudwell Children supporters who backed the campaign throughout. Of course the biggest thanks are reserved for the aforementioned volunteers, who put their lives on hold for 50 hours to live
in the glass box – you are brilliant and we really couldn’t have done this
without you!
This campaign may have ended, but of course our mission to keep
on raising funds for our autism support services continues.
Please donate and help support more autistic children and their families.
Thank you!
