Derek's Lights · 2 November 2020

St Barnabas Hospice is the leading charity in Lincolnshire providing palliative and end-of-life care to adults living with a life-limiting or terminal illness. Our vision is a world where dying with dignity, compassion and having choices is a fundamental part of a life.

Story

2024 Edit:

Unfortunately there are no lights this year as Dad very sadly passed away on 11th November. As soon as the local people found out he was ill, they began donating to this page, so a big thank you to everyone who donates or has donated, it will be a fantastic legacy for Dad to have a final year's fundraising for all the hard work he's put in over previous Christmases.

For the past 21 years Dad (Derek Turner) has decorated the outside of his house and garden with lights at Christmas time. For the last 16 years he has also collected money for St Barnabas Hospice, in total managing to raise well over £10,000. Dad spends about 4 weeks getting them all in place and the big switch on is usually the 7th of November which is his birthday, this year he's 87. People come from all over Lincolnshire and beyond to see his lights and he's become quite well known. In 2020 because of lockdown, I set this page up for him so he could still raise some money for St Barnabas and I've kept it going as an alternative for people who would rather donate online. The collection is especially poignant this year, (2023), as Mum (Jean Turner) passed away in Lincoln St Barnabas Hospice in February. The care she received was amazing, she could not have been treated any better, which has given us even greater reason to raise money for them.
