The Benevolent Fund helps fallen riders and their families in cases of need. It also raises funds to go towards medical equipment for use at BMCRC Race Meetings.

Story

Ben's brother Tom, his mum Jax and Steve Thompson a friend of Bens are absolutely delighted and want to to say a massive thank you to everyone who has helped us reach our 2009 fundraising target of £10,000.00 for the BMCRC medics who do a fantastic job helping all the riders and their families at  race meetings throughout the year.

The money raised so far has been used by the BMCRC to purchase the 'Ben Lightowler Rapid Response Vehicle' to be used at all their meetings along with extra medical equipment for the medics who fought so hard to save Bens Life.

Our website for 2010 is now open for donations at www.justgiving.com/lights2010

We held various fundraising events throughout last year and SUCCESSFULLY completed our ultimate challenge to climb MOUNT KILIMANJARO!

Summit day was on the 24th of September 2009 and we were all there to see the amazing sunrise The trip however was not without incident. Tom had to be rapidly taken down over 2,000 mtrs when suffering altitude sickness at the summit and Steve slipped during his descent and was on a ledge with a suspected broken ankle. Luckily both were ok and really enjoyed their rides on the African stretchers (see picture of the 'deluxe' vehicle!!!!)

The other events we organised last year, to name a few were a Race Night in March, a sponsored walk of the YorkshireThree Peaks in May, a raffle which was drawn in June, a climb of Snowdon in July and another race night at Harrogate Hockey Club in September.

2010 brings more challenges for the team, one of them being to complete the Three National Peaks within 24 hours!

Donating through Justgiving is quick, easy and totally secure. It’s also the most efficient way to sponsor us and the BMCRC Benevolent Fund gets your money faster.

Thank you very much once again to everyone who has donated so far and we look forward to everyone continuing to show  their appreciation for our continued efforts and help us raise even more funds for the medics giving these truly fantastic people the help they deserve.
