Story
The 25th World Scout Jamboree
Hello, my name is Lily, and I am 16 years old. I have been part of Girl Guiding and Scouting for 10 years. In December 2021, I was 1 of 6 people to be selected to represent Sevenoaks scouts at the 25th World Scout Jamboree after attending a selection camp over a weekend in November with over 50 other people. I will be attending the World Scout Jamboree in South Korea in 2023 as part of Unit 65 - the Dino-mite Donkeys - with 35 others and 4 unit leaders from Kent.
In August 2022, I will be climbing the '3 peaks' - the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales - these are Scafell Pike (978m), Ben Nevis (1,345m) and Snowdon (1,085m). I will be attempting to climb these 3 peaks as quickly as possible along with my parents (Richard & Jo).
I am doing this because it is a difficult physical and mental challenge to test my endurance and it will push me out of my comfort zone, just as going to South Korea will be physically demanding (coping with heat) and challenging on many other levels whilst I am there. It will also help me to raise funds to pay for the trip to the WSJ. All donations will be passed on to Sevenoaks Scouts (Registered Charity No. 303435).
In Summer 2023, more than 40,000 Scouts from all over the world will unite in Korea for the 25th World Scout Jamboree for ten days of teamwork and personal development, along with the chance to visit Seoul and other cities of culture. The World Scout Jamboree (WSJ) is a World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM), which happens every four years, each time hosted by a different country. The 25th World Scout Jamboree experience will enable young people to realise their dreams, make friendships with people from different cultures, and take part in a safe, inclusive and sustainable programme.
