Snowdon Triple Challenge · 3 August 2019
Dad was diagnosed with Alzeimer's and Vascular Dementia 5 years ago now and despite this illness, for the most part, has remained happy, care free and enjoyed being around his family and friends, especially when there is music and dancing on offer!
Sadly, there is no cure or hope for improvement and inevitably the quality of living after battling 5 years of this dreadful disease, has become more of a struggle, not just for Dad but for Mum (an 81 year old legend!)
The reality is that without raising awareness and funding, many of us are likely to suffer the same fate and I simply cannot accept this without doing all I can to help fund the research needed to find a cure as well as increase the much-needed support for all those suffering and caring for those closest to them.
My challenge will be to complete a 10.5 mile cycle between the Snowdon Massif and Mynydd Mawr (big mountain!) then swap bikes for boots to begin the ascent of Snowdon to the summit. Followed by a 2.5 kayak decent across Lynn Padam - all in one day!
£1000 could pay for an experienced Dementia Support worker to support a family affected by dementia for an hour a week for an entire year. This may not seem a lot, but I know first-hand is a life line for those in need.
£3300 could pay for brain scanning equipment to detect changes in the brain caused by Alzheimer's disease, in the hope of finding an affordable, non-invasive test to diagnose the condition.
Any amount no matter how small would be so very much appreciated.
Thank you! :)
