Story

Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page.

Mick entered the ½ marathon, however due to injury he is unable to run, so I have taken on the mantle to raise money and awareness for BCRT. My name is Pat, I am a very good friend of the Wigg Family and have known James since he was born. I have stepped in at the last minute!

As some of you may know, Linda visited the Doctor’s on many occasions with James to be told more than once that ‘it is only growing pains’.  Osteosarcoma is a rare teenage cancer and as such isn’t on the GP’s radar.  BCRT has launched a campaign recently to ensure that GP’s are more aware, a simple X ray could have shown James’s tumour a lot earlier if the GP knew the signs.

In December 2010 James, who is Mick and Linda’s son was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, he was only 13. The tumour had grown so big that James needed to have Chemotherapy to try and shrink the tumour and his knee replaced when the tumour was removed.  He is a very determined young man and has shown great resilience, he will be there on the 7 October to support me.

Remember more research is needed to help the diagnoses and treatment to ensure there is a higher survival rate. Earlier diagnosis increases the chance of survival.  With your help   BCRT can continue this work The Bone Cancer Research Trust is devoted to promoting and funding research into the causes and treatment of PBC, particularly osteosarcoma and Ewing's sarcoma.
