Steve was diagnosed with malignant melanoma in May 2008 after a mole on his back started bleeding.
Unfortunately it spread into his lymph glands and in July 2009 he had an operation to remove all lymph nodes under his arm.
Following a scan in September 2009 it revealed it had spread to his spleen, stomach and adrenal glands. We were told that melanoma has little chance of responding to chemotherapy or radiotherapy.
On top of this he developed MAR - a very rare condition Melanoma Associated Retinopathy - which affected his eyesight. Top specialists in the country had hardly ever encountered anyone with the condition, having only read about cases.
He went on a clinical trial at The Churchill Hospital in Oxford for 12 weeks, but unfortunately the tumours continued to grow and spread into his throat and bones.
Sadly he passed away on 8th April 2010.
Melanoma is such an unpredictable form of cancer and does not respond to regular forms of treatment.
But there has to be a cure out there!!
So please donate to help them find it!!
It's Steve's legacy.
