In May 2013, along with a great many other people, I lost a dear friend, David Mitchell, better known to us as Beastie. His love of life was infectious and continues to be an inspiration to us all. A small group of us decided that it would be a fitting tribute to the big man to do something challenging to try and raise some money for Marie Curie Cancer Care, whose support for Dave and Jenny has been incredible.

Over the years, we've shared many wonderful weekends walking in the Yorkshire Dales and sampling the local hospitality, so we felt that walking the 81 miles of the Dales Way would be a suitably challenging and enjoyable experience for us but, most of all, would be something Dave would have loved to have done with us. He'll be with us every step of the way, spurring us on to the next pub and calling us all something unrepeatable.
