The LBDI COVID19 Poverty Appeal raises awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on poverty in London.

Story

We wear black because 27% of Londoners live in poverty and COVID-19 will place the greatest strain on people who are already vulnerable.

The LBDI COVID-19 Poverty Appeal raises awareness of the impact of COVID-19 on poverty in London. While this is still an emerging issue, the challenges facing those in poverty are already increasing as we see growing demands on the food banks and additional needs for the homeless and those in refuges.

For 4 days, our members will be wearing a black dress or outfit as a symbol of solidarity in times of crisis; in recognition of all that Londons volunteers & essential workers are doing; and to raise funds for those working with Londons most vulnerable.

Since its creation in London, LBDI has raised over £100,000 in London and the LBDI campaign has expanded to over 40 Junior League locations across the United States and Canada! The positive impact of this global poverty initiative is a testament to Junior League's mission to promote voluntary service and improve our community through the effective action and leadership of volunteers. Please support me in my fundraising efforts! #teamLBDI
