Give It Some Welly · 24 October 2014

We provide invaluable information to empower sufferers to manage their symptoms and have a better quality of life. We act as their voice and represent their views. It is our vision that everyone in the UK should have access to allergy services, regardless of age or location. Help us lead the fight!

Story

As most of you know, three of my children suffer from allergies. Between them they have food allergies, environmental allergies, eczema and Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria.

My eldest daughter, Millie, 6, is allergic to dairy and wheat. Eating something that contains these makes her very poorly and causes a lot of pain and distress. Before we got her allergies under control she used to miss school due to feeling so unwell.

Vinnie, my youngest son, 3, has Chronic Spontaneous Urticaria, an intolerance to wheat, eczema and a severe grass pollen allergy. He has to take huge amounts of antihistamines every day to stop his body randomly swelling up and/or getting hives. During summer he needs inhalers as well as medicine just so he can breathe properly. His Urticaria can be very painful and upsetting for him, and it can flare up at any time. Heat, tiredness and cold are all triggers.

And finally, Pippa, 2, my baby... She has multiple food allergies with varying severity, from hives to full anaphylaxis. Her most severe are Dairy, Beef and Soya. She's also allergic to cats. I have to carry her medical kit, containing epi pens, antihistamines and a heart monitor, everywhere I go in case she is ever unexpectedly exposed to an allergen.

I make sure they all live life to the full and don't miss out, as much as possible, but it is hard work and can be exhausting for us all.

I will be wearing my wellies and proudly showing off my wrist band (which I always wear) all day this Friday to raise awareness and money for allergies, in the hope that one day there will be a cure for my babies.

All donations, no matter how big or small, will be much appreciated. :-)
