Somehow my life has thrown me yet another curveball but for a change an AMAZING one. I have been selected to trek across the French Alps in September to raise money for Coppafeel!. This is a breast cancer charity which wants to stamp out late diagnosis in women who may have been dismissed or not taken seriously because of their age. They aim to empower women and men with the confidence the know their bodies and challenge medical professionals when they suspect something isn’t right. 

So myself and approx 100 others are going on a trek of a lifetime to raise as much cash as possible for this charity. I know I’m getting dropped off in Geneva, hot footing it to Mont Blanc and there the adventure begins. 

I had cancer at 33 years old and was diagnosed at 34 with a baby and a 4 year old who was about to start school. My cancer had already spread to my lymph nodes before I even went to the doctors. I didn’t even think or know to check my armpits for lumps. 

Weeks after my 36 birthday with a 2 year old and 6 year old, I was told the cancer had spread to my brain and was now incurable or in old money, terminal. I intend to spend the rest of my days living my life to the absolute maximum. Apparently that includes trekking through some mountains. I hope someone is taking a defib. What’s particularly special about this trek for me is that it will take place after my supposed sell by date. Women with metastatic breast cancer live on average another 13 months after their diagnosis. I’ll be trekking during month 17. So please, please spare what you can so I can complete this challenge and give cancer the middle finger for as long as possible.
