I've created this page because I want to make a difference. I'm inspired by the work of the YMCA of Greater Louisville and wanted to support them by raising money as part of my participation in the YMCA Annual Campaign. My main focus is Safe Place Services/Y-Now Program because they provide safety, shelter and support for teens and young adults in need. The more people that know about the YMCA of Greater Louisville's charitable efforts, the greater their impact, so please also spread the word by sharing my page with your friends and family. Thank you in advance for your generosity, it means a lot!
Here is a success story from a wonderful young man that I’ve had the pleasure of meeting:
A child with an incarcerated parent is 7 times more likely to end up incarcerated themselves. My name is Isaiah Duncan and I am a child of an incarcerated parent. In 2014, when I was just 10 years old I was introduced to a program called Y-NOW. The Y-NOW program is for youth with an incarcerated parent ages 11-15. I immediately feel in love with the program. That was the first place I felt like I belonged, there was 29 other kids just like me. Throughout the program I learned a number of different things. Some of those being, goal setting and maintaining, budgeting time and money, grief/loss, and so much more. The Y-NOW program completely changed my life.
Flash forward to today… I’m an 18-year-old student at University of Louisville. I’m studying Business Administration. I graduated high school with a 4.2 GPA, 16 college credits, 4 scholarships and nine awards. I’m a full-time manager at Kentucky Kingdom and a part time employee at the SafePlace. I credit the SafePlace and the Y-NOW program for all of my success. They gave me the tools to completely change my life. Thank you Y-NOW, Thank you SafePlace.
I appreciate your support!
