Story
I'm running my third Great North Run to raise money for a local service that I had never heard of until recently, Newcastle Vision Support.
My cousin Heather was the most enthusiastic Primary School teacher I know. She loved her job and all of the children she taught and they loved her. One day Heather woke up and little did she know her life had changed. Heather had a headache and her peripheral vision had gone. After a long stay in hospital and lots of tests it was discovered Heather had an inoperable lesion in her brain.
During the last 18 months Heather has had to come to terms with the fact she is now registered severely sight impaired (blind). It is looking very unlikely that Heather's sight will ever return.
Heather has used different services available but has said the support she has received from Newcastle Vision Support has been nothing short of life changing. The people she has been introduced to will be friends for life. Heather now volunteers to support the service and will attend her first AGM as a trustee.
If you are able please support this service as no one knows what is round the corner. We all hope the services we need will be available in our time of need.
