Some of you will remember, in past I've volunteered with Mellon Educate to build schools in South Africa's poorest Townships.  During the week we repair existing school buildings and build new libraries, classrooms, playgrounds, etc.

The ultimate aim of Mellon Educate is to educate over 100,000 of the poorest children in South Africa, supporting a programme of Teacher training, mentoring and up-skilling with a target to increase pass rates from 20% to 75%.  Part of this is helping provide better facilities / schools for this education to take place within.

I've signed up to go again in November 2019 to support the refurbishment/building of another school.  I'm looking forward to the opportunity to again help create an environment where children can get the kind of education that we in the US/UK take for granted.

Like most charities, Mellon Educate is very reliant on fundraising activities.  I am funding as much as I can myself, but have a fundraising target of £2750.00 to raise for helping with materials, etc.  In order to fundraise, I've set myself a monthly running target/event, and am asking people to sponsor me to achieve them.  Those of you who know me well will agree, I am not a runner - I am a determined slow plodder so for me this is a real challenge!  Progress to date has been 50 mile challenge in January, Winter Run London in February, MK Running Festival 10k in March, and Flitwick 10k in April.
