Story
Thanks for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, any small donation would mean the world!
Sadly, most of us have either experienced mental health struggles ourselves or know/supported someone who has, and the stats are staggering. Depression affects 5% of the global population, that’s approximately 280 million people world wide.
Heartbreakingly, the link between mental disorders and suicide is well established. More than 700,000 people per year take their own life, that’s one person every 40 seconds. And for each life lost, there is believed to be 20 failed attempts. It’s shocking and devastating to realise that for 19-34 year olds in the UK, suicide is the leading cause of death.
That’s why I believe charities supporting those living with mental health disorders are of utmost importance. FDAMH (Falkirk’s Mental Health Association) find light in a dark place. They are an independent charity providing both one-to-one and group mental health and well-being support, to those living with mental health disorders, as well as families and carers.
For anyone living with mental health struggles, or supporting someone who is, the word ‘exhausted’ won’t even scratch the surface. The very least I can do to help raise awareness of and funds for, such an invaluable charity is to feel a bit tired and uncomfortable for a couple of hours. I sadly lost my amazing friend Matt earlier this year, hopefully any funds raised will help save another life.
Super heroes don’t always wear capes, some wear FDAMH T-shirts.
