My sister in law, Joanne Cox, and I are taking part in the Target Ovarian Cancer 'Walk for One Million' on 11th October.

2 years ago I lost my mum to ovarian cancer, after being diagnosed only 8 months earlier.  Like many women, she didn't know the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and so didn't realise that there was something seriously wrong with her.  Had she known the symptoms, and sought advice from her GP earlier, she may still be here today.  

7000 women are affected by ovarian cancer each year.  Many of these women are in the advanced stages of the disease at diagnosis, as my mum was.  Survival rates at 5 years is just 43%.  If women were diagnosed at an earlier stage, then it would be easier to treat and survival rates would be up to 90%.

Target Ovarian Cancer recognises the importance of raising awareness about the symptoms of ovarian cancer, and are working hard to do so. By raising £150, 600 people could learn the symptoms of the disease by receiving a leaflet from Target Ovarian Cancer.  I would love to be able to achieve this, to help other women recognise early warning signs, encourage them to seek help, and prevent this awful disease progressing before it's too late.
