Milton Keynes Marathon 2012 · 29 April 2012 ·
After 'running for mum' in Race for Life last year to raise money for Cancer research, I had assumed my running days were over, or at the very least 10K would be the furthest distance I would run. However, fast forward 12months and not only have I now completed a half marathon but will shortly be running a full marathon. I hadn't planned on running a marathon or even raising any money for charity but since I will be putting myself through such torture, not to get any money or even the raise the profile of my chosen charity would be wrong.
So, why have I chosen Meothelioma UK, a relatively unknown charity? Simple!.
Many of you know my beautiful mum passed away 6 years ago due to mesothemlioma (asbestos related cancer) At the time we as a family knew very little about this type of cancer and I believe the charity I plan to raise money for not only raises awareness of this cancer and it's causes but also provides much needed support for those families who have to go through what my family has. Quite shocklingly from what I've read on my charity's website, only 6% of the UK population know what this disease is, yet this cancer kills 1 person every 5 hrs in the UK.
In doing my small part for this charity, I hope that more people will become aware of a cancer that could and should be avoidable.
So, when I stand on the start line and run my race all thoughts will be on the reason why I'm doing it - in memory of my mum who fought so bravely. How can I then not run regardless of my pain for a few hours when my mum lived for many months in so much more?
Thank you for taking the time to visit my JustGiving page, any donation small or large is much appreciated
