Event: London Marathon 2019, on 28 April 2019
Welcome to our London marathon team page! This year we would like to raise £15,000, which will fund the care of a bed in our inpatient unit for one month.

Story

“If I can do it you can” encouraging words from my friend Trevor earlier this year, who had just completed his first marathon at 68! Inspired by his words, and a long held desire to actually do it I have signed up to do the London marathon in April 2019.

I have had the absolute privilege of working in oncology and palliative care for over 25 years, where I continue to be inspired by patients and their families on a daily basis.

I have been given this opportunity by Cynthia Spencer Hospice, where I have worked as part of the community palliative care team for 4 years, and see the difference that support from the team can really make. Therefore, to fund raise for this fabulous charity is an honour, and I thank them for placing their trust in me to complete the marathon.

So I am feeling a little terrified about whether I am capable of running 26 miles, and whether my body will rise to the challenge! I’m 4 weeks into a 26 week programme which promises to get me match fit - still not sure how but I am placing my trust in it and hoping for the best!

I am blessed with so much support from my family and friends; although several were a little concerned for my welfare initially! So I am asking if you could possibly sponsor me to do this challenge and help support the work of the hospice for people in Northamptonshire. I am planning some events as well on the run up to the marathon and will keep you posted.

Many thanks
