Race for Life · 10 July 2022
We are a group of friends who are doing the Race for Life to
raise money for ‘The Larks Marina Dalglish Appeal’ in honour of our close friend Lisa Cavanagh (nee McIntyre).
Lisa was initially diagnosed with Breast Cancer in September 2011. Through the awareness Lisa raised at the time, we all started checking our breasts regularly. 12 months later, our other close friend Natalie Tully (nee Redmond) was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. To have two close friends diagnosed with Breast Cancer 12 months apart, proved how common and how devastating this disease is. Lisa and Natalie both had a long hard battle but thankfully fought this dreadful disease.
Unfortunately, after suffering pain in her back and neck for
approximately 2 years, Lisa was diagnosed in September 2020 with Metastatic Breast Cancer which means the primary cancer has travelled to another part of the body, in Lisa's case her spine. As a group of close friends aged 45 that have gone through school together, this news devastated us all. We often hear a lot about Breast Cancer and the high percentage of people that fight it and get the all clear, but we don't often hear about Metastatic Breast Cancer (Secondary Breast Cancer) which is treatable but there is no cure. Lisa is really keen to raise awareness of this, as we know, catching any cancer early can prolong life.
Lisa is a strong courageous independent woman and fights this disease daily and with the right medication, the cancer is currently stable.
The Larks is an amazing charity that supports not just Lisa
and her family regularly, but many other women who are going through the same thing.
Please help us raise money to kick cancers ass and hopefully one day find a cure 🙏
