London Marathon 2021 · 3 October 2021 ·

We support the thousands of patients and families at Sheffield Children’s, from across the UK and beyond, by funding the life-changing and the joy-sparking. We make clinical care kinder, and bad days brighter. We bring play, laughter and comfort to places where they’re needed the most.

Story

I should have been running the Lochness Marathon in September 2019 but due to circumstances out of my control I couldn't do it.

The circumstances being that our 14 year old son Sam got rushed to hospital after having a seizure and it turned out he had an infection on the brain.  He had to under go 5 hours of surgery and then a further 36 hours of being sedated and paralysed so his brain could recover.  It was the scariest experience of all our lives and if it wasn't for the staff at the Sheffield Childrens Hospital.  From the paramedics, A&E staff, ICU staff, Neurology ward staff and the OPAT team who came to our house to continue giving the antibiotics needed when we left the hospital then Sam wouldn't be here now.

About 2 weeks after Sam got out of hospital I got a ballot place for the London Marathon which I was amazed at and I feel it is my chance to say thank you and give something back.

So I'd appreciate any donations anyone can give to help me say thank you to the Sheffield Children's Hospital for saving my son's life.
