Sandy Bear exists to support children, young people and families in the lead up to or following the death of someone close to them. Our work ensures that no child grieves alone, and that they have space to understand and to develop resilience and overcome adversity.

Story

Suicide is still taboo, even though it's the biggest cause of death in men under 45. For many adults, suicide can be very upsetting and frightening. So when it comes to speaking to children affected by suicide many will feel tempted to “protect” the child by saying that the death was caused by a heart attack or an accident, rather than by suicide. Shielding children from the truth can undermine their trust and create a legacy of secrecy and shame that can persist for generations. We need honesty to break the stigma of suicide and mental health.

This is why we value so much the work that Sandy Bear does, as they support children and their families through their grief, offering comfort, reassurance, and honest answers to their questions.

For some children and young people, the death of a loved one will turn their world upside down in an instant. Sandy Bear Children's Bereavement Charity is dedicated to helping children between 0-18 to strengthen their emotional health and well-being, aiming to reduce emotional difficulties in childhood and the prevalence of mental illness in later life that can result in a decreased quality of life, poorer educational attainment, social and health problems and increased vulnerability.
