Milly's Smiles provides a Holdall Bag, known as a Milly Bag for all children who have been newly diagnosed with a cancer related illness, and admitted into hospital. The bag contains lots of essential and luxury items that will help them through the first frightening weeks of their journey.

Story

Hello all,

As I'm sure quite a few of you will know, Percy (2) was diagnosed with AML (Acute Myeloid Leukemia) back in early March, which shook our entire world, when he was only being checked at the doctors 48 hours prior. The diagnosis was very quick and he was admited to the Royal Manchester Children's Hopsital to start chemotherepy immediatly.

Although Percy responded well to the chemotherepy, the Leukemia cells were still present and it was deemed that a Bone Marrow Transplant was required. A donor was found and the transplant completed in late June. As I am writing this, Percy is now in week three of his recovery from the transplant and progressing well. I will of course keep this page updated as to how he gets on over the next few weeks.

From Percy and us all, we would like to raise money for the wonderful charity, Milly's Smiles, so that they can continue to spread happy vibes through the children's hospital and be able to deliver the special bags to newly admitted children and parents who need it most. When Percy comes out of hospital, he will still be vulnerable for some time and unable to do the trek up Snowden himself.  I will therefore do it on Percy's behalf, whilst he recovers at home and gets his strength back.

Milly's Smiles is a charity who support parents of recently diagnosed children with cancer. They kindly provided us with a holdall bag, which included essentials such as a blanket, pillow, beanie hat, toiletries, thermometer, a lovely knitted elephant and more. It was very much appreciated and something, that in the midst of tragedy on the day percy was officialy diagnosed, managed to put a smile on our face :)

I encourage you to all take the time to visit the website http://www.millyssmiles.org/ to read up on the charity and especially about Milly herself, who very sadly lost her battle with Leukemia in 2015.
