Story
On the 5th of March 2019, my partner and I endured an experience no couple should ever have to go through. Our beautiful baby boy was born sleeping and our world was turned upside down. We called him Pip because Gina craved apples during the pregnancy and he was a tiny little Apple pip, a cute and fitting nickname for our son.
Neither of us had ever known anyone to have had a stillborn child, and so thought it was a rare occurrence. After speaking to many amazing people who have comforted and supported us in the last months, we realise just how common stillbirth is.
One in every four pregnancies leads to stillbirth or miscarriage, a shocking and depressing statistic. Many people I am close to or have known a while have told me that it has happened to them or someone they know. It is truly a travesty that so many babies each year are affected.
We want to raise funds for stillbirth charities and keep little Pip’s memory alive in the process! We have been obsessively baking bread and looking into various challenges in the hope of raising money to make a difference to these charities. The number of stillbirths and miscarriages should not be so high, especially in the era of cloning and other advanced scientific discoveries, and these charities are dedicated to reducing the numbers.
Nobody should be told their baby has died, and nobody should be told they died for no known reason. These charities are working towards a great and meaningful cause and hopefully, in the not too distant future, they can eradicate or drastically reduce the number of families who are affected by this awful experience.
If you live in Halifax or the surrounding area, donate and comment what bread you would like and we will hand make from scratch, a delicious homemade loaf in memory of our little boy. If you live further away, for a trial period, I may post a smaller loaf (but the donation must be decent!!). The top donation after the end of July 2019 will get a loaf a fortnight for the rest of the year (Halifax area!).
Thank you for reading our page. We will keep you informed of any challenges we will attempt in the future! For ideas of bread we have made visit @loaf_you_dough_much on instagram and https://www.facebook.com/tomsbaking/ on Facebook.
