There can’t be many people out there who haven’t had cancer in their family at one time or another.I have to admit that I knew very little about bowel cancer until my mother was diagnosed with the illness in 2012. After undergoing three operations Mum was in remission, until the cancer came back towards the end of 2014. She had her fourth operation at the beginning of 2015, and made a complete recovery. However as I was completing the book in October 2015 the cancer returned once again, and Mum had another lung operation in March. Throughout her treatment Mum continues to battle bowel cancer with great strength, courage and dignity. Sadly the cancer has recently spread to her brain and it is now terminal.
Over 18 months I met with and photographed people from all walks of life to form the chapters of Lives& Times. Every single person taking part in the book gave up their own time to do it and every single penny I make in royalties goes directly to the charity. The funds go to Beating Bowel Cancer, which is the support and campaign charity for everyone affected by bowel cancer. It is a charity that is very close to my heart.
The book is available to buy on my own website www.bowelcancerfundraising.co.uk
