Story
In November 2025, I will be facing probably my toughest personal challenge ever. I will be joining 50 crazy mad people as we trek across Patagonia, South America. Why Patagonia? We are marking the 160th anniversary of Welsh pioneers who left Wales for Patagonia in 1865.
This will no doubt be an extremely mental, physical, and emotional challenge for me, but this is nothing compared to what Cancer patients go through.
Velindre Cancer Centre is known as the Hospital of Hope, they have been providing specialist treatment and supportive care to Cancer patients and families for well over 65 years. The money that is raise for Velindre helps fund incredible groundbreaking research and clinical trials, cutting edge treatments, the most amazing nurses, equipment and so so much more!
And for that, here is why I am doing it… well, my reason, is my incredible mum!
December 2023, Mum was diagnosed with Secondary Breast Cancer/Stage 4. This news came as such a shock to our entire family, and we felt like our whole world was collapsing. Mum had already beaten Bowel Cancer in 2016 and then had beaten Breast Cancer for the first time in 2019. After multiple appointments and scans, it was then discovered that it had spread to her lungs and other locations.
Unfortunately there is no cure, the aim of the treatment that mum is receiving is to control it, relieve symptoms and maintain her quality of life for as long as possible. She is doing an incredible job at smashing anything that is thrown at her. Not only is she a mum to Stuart, Kirsty, Josh and myself but she is a wife of 43 years to dad, Anthony and grandma to 2 little ones Arthur & Sophie. She is also a lifelong friend to all she meets. It's safe to say she has the biggest support network around her, all who love her so much!
This trek will be coinciding with mums 67th Birthday, even though I won’t be with her to celebrate in person. I will be raising a small bottle of bubbly at Lago Frias to celebrate whilst on the trip!
Any contribution that you could make, would be MASSIVELY appreciated
