Story

Last year I stupidly agreed to do this new fangled competition called HYROX. Many people were incredibly generous and sponsored us,  so it was fractionally less painful to train for and compete in (it was really, really painful).

Annoyingly we [significant caveat: within our age group and category] only went and won in Hong Kong, so now we have to represent at the World Championships in....wait for it...Manchester. In four weeks time.

I said I'd do it at the time, envisaging relentless training that would make it somewhat bearable. Needless to say that has not happened. I have spent two weeks drinking on a yacht, about two hours (total) in the gym, and I have been down with the standard, basic variety flu for a week. Oh, and my flight lands in Manchester four hours before the competition.

This will be gruesome, humiliating, and goodness knows every fibre in my body is screaming "don't do it". But I said I would so here goes...

If you didn't happen to sponsor us last time and happen to have a spare quid down the back of the sofa, the lovely team at Disability Sports UK would be super grateful of any donations. They do amazing work, and I'm in awe of their dedication, which means I now have to overcome my own lack of it...

About the charity

We use the power of sport to enhance the lives of disabled people. Disabled people are twice as likely to be inactive as non-disabled people. Through our inclusive clubs, coaching sessions in schools and expert-led training, we break down barriers to sport for 5,000 disabled people each year.
