Story
For the 2nd year me & Debs are doing the midnight walk in memory or our amazing mum who we miss very much.
Mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer on her 55th birthday which was absolutely devastating for us all, the prognosis was not good even following a major operation but mum faced every challenge head on & amazingly remained with us for a further 5 years, passing away just 2 days after her 60th birthday.
For the those of you who had the pleasure to know mum you will know how determined she was to stay with her family as long as she could, meet her unborn grandchildren & make the most of every minute she was still with us. Even when mum was week from chemo or in severe pain she still found the strength to carry on with any plans made, giving us many wonderful memories.
My son Scott, the eldest of mum's grandchildren developed a very strong relationship with his Nana who use to spend so much of her time playing with him & teaching him new things. Scott has fantastic memories of time spent with his Nana & talks about her all the time.
The support mum got from St Barnabus was invaluable. Mum went to their day centre 1 day every week for some time. She enjoyed the activities on offer but more importantly it enabled her to talk to others in similar situations which helped her in so many ways. It also made mum feel happier knowing dad was also having a break.
Mum spent her last few weeks of her life in the hospice, which was the hardest thing our family has ever had to deal with but the care mum received was amazing & she was as free from pain & as comfortable as she possibly could have been.
St Barnabus were supportive in every way & facilitated us using the Day Centre to have a small family party for mum on her 60th Birthday, where we all spent our last real quality time together watching family videos.
We are raising money both in memory of mum & for the many other families going through something similar.
