On the 10th of July 2021 I will set out along The Ridgeway in Oxfordshire to run 100km (62 miles) non stop finishing at the iconic Avebury stone circle in Wiltshire. 

The Ridgeway is an ancient footpath which is lined with archaeological sites and has been a well travelled way for some 5,000 years. It is hilly and I will climb some 1,086 metres (to put that into context that is a metre more than the height of Snowdon if I've googled correctly). Not being built for speed I'm hoping to make it to Avebury within about 20 hours.

I am fundraising for BASICS Devon having been utterly inspired by an amazing client. This lady, who I shall call A, had been involved in a terrible car crash. Another driver who was speeding and under the influence of drugs slammed into the front of her car as she was on her way home. It changed her life forever. 

A suffered widespread injuries to her whole body. As well as the physical injuries she also sustained psychological injuries including PTSD. 

When she was trapped in the car after the crash A was assisted by a volunteer doctor from BASICS Devon. BASICS is the British Association for Immediate Care. They are a network of volunteer doctors who provide immediate access to specialist medical care at the scene of emergencies. They save lives, especially in a large rural county like Devon where the nearest ambulance may be many miles away from the scene of an accident. 

I spent a lot of time with A over the course of her claim, which was ultimately settled in early 2021, and I was always struck and inspired by her grit, determination and strength of character. Despite what had happened she never gave up, she worked hard every single day to achieve the best recovery possible. Also, she was unfailingly positive and upbeat. She refused to be beaten by what had happened. She told me about BASICS Devon and I would love to raise some funds for them to support their amazing work.
