Thanks to everyone who's donated so far - if you haven't yet, there's still time!

The race went very well - I crossed the finish line at 27 minutes, 34 seconds but actually ran it in less than that, as I wasn't right at the front of the crowd at the start (my stopwatch recorded 27:15 from crossing the start line, but I fumbled that at the end, so I don't know how much less than that it actually was). It wasn't possible to run at any kind of speed for the first 2-3 kilometres because of the number of other runners, but it meant I was fresh for the finish and able to finish with a proper sprint. The whole thing felt really fast - I felt like I'd been running for ten minutes, not nearly thirty, and the atmosphere was great.

I'm running in the Adidas 5K race in Hyde Park, London, on 6 September. This is the first race I have ever entered. I took up running in March having not done any since before my two children, Daniel & Abigail, were born. I'm doing it partly as a challenge for myself, but also to raise money for WaterAid (www.wateraid.org) a charity that uses low-cost, sustainable technologies to provide clean water and sanitation to some of the world's poorest people. Particularly now that I have children of my own, I can't imagine what it would be like to only be able to offer them filthy water to drink, let alone watch them get ill or die as a result. Surely everyone deserves better than that.
